Some mornings when you open your eyes, your mind may pick up where your brain left off when you went to bed – replaying your life’s challenges. Starting your day with a new strategy will help you to cope with your challenges and can also help you to see them with new perspective.

Tack a ‘thank you’ or ‘gratitude’ note to the ceiling above your bed, your bathroom mirror, refrigerator door, dashboard and office computer so that when you open your eyes  or see it, your first thoughts are about the blessings in your life. Make a habit of bringing to mind five things that your are grateful for.

Gratitude therapy, when practiced regularly, can change your thinking, perspective and brain chemistry – a powerful well-being tool.

COLOUR: A self-help therapy

Do you associate different colours found in your home, wardrobe and environments with the feelings you experience? Do you feel happier when you see or wear certain colours? Are your drawn to specific colours? Is your favourite colour a reflection of what your body could use some help with. Emotions and moods can be affected by the use of colour. Each colour’s vibration is associated with different attributes and qualities. Colour therapy is the use of colour to assist the body in healing.

  • Blue has a relaxing calming effect and is used therapeutically in dyslexia.
  • Magenta is used therapeutically to normalize blood pressure.
  • Violet is used therapeutically as an immune enhancer.
  • Yellow is used therapeutically for night blindness because it filters out blue light.
Colour can be combined with light therapy to enhance the healing benefits.

Adding colour to your home, work and wardrobe can promote well-being. Consider the health attributes of colour choices as additional criteria, when selecting paint and clothing.
