In my practice as a holistic wellness practitioner I share the strategies that I have found to be most effective on my well-being journey and through counselling my clients; refined through many years of trial and error. After years of working with clients with multiple and varied health challenges, there is a common thread that cannot be ignored.

Life imbalance has a ripple effect on health!


The impact is dependent on degree, intensity, length of time and re-balancing strategy attempts. When clients come to me with their unresolved symptoms and conditions they are often surprised and some irritated that I expect them to look at their ‘life imbalance’ issues as an underlying cause that needs to be addressed in order for their health to improve. Busy lives come with many life challenges, potentially ‘rocking your boat’ and leaving you feeling unbalanced. Einstein’s definition for insanity was: “Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.” Long understood by Olympic athletes; the first step toward achieving greater levels of success is understanding that you need to change your behavior and approaches to attain more. If you are not moving forwards in terms of your well-being, then it’s time to reassess your ‘game plan’.

Just as a car runs more smoothly when the wheels are perfectly inflated and aligned, you perform and feel better when your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self are in balance. When one tire goes flat in a vehicle the vibration throughout is profound and can result in further structural distress. Imbalances in your body (blood sugar, ph, brain chemistry, hormones) and life (stressors) have the potential to impact your whole body and person via a ripple effect.

Participants can start the workshop with a partially completed vision board (everything you see in the first picture in this blog post is done for you in permanent chalk marker – additional fee applies) or start from scratch using the class instructions. You will customize your board (see my second board image below) with self-help strategies you select from the provided material, images and clip art that you bring to the workshop. I added my sample strategies to my board with regular chalk and with images and clipart.  You will be able to use an erasable fine point chalk marker (or regular chalk) on the board giving you lots of room to add and change strategies. There is additional space on the board to add your motivational words or quotes or doodles and designs. Keep your completed board beside your favourite relaxation spot at home or your office wall to help remind you often that you may need to regularly re-evaluate and implement alternate strategies to achieve your goals and maintain balance. Edit your board as needed to keep you on track.

YOUR BODY’S OPERATING SYSTEM: An Amazing Well-being Tool

Identifying Your Operating System – Your body’s amazing well-being tool!

This afternoon my 10 month old daughter placed three blocks on top of each other. That may not seem like anything important, but in terms of developmental markers it is. As a grandparent living with her over the last week, and according to her mom;  it is a huge developmental jump.

The human body has an amazing operating system that develops, or evolves from birth to old age, unless disrupted. This amazing operating system when utilized is a powerful well-being tool – providing natural cures.

Utilizing Your Operating System – Your Body’s Amazing Well-being Tool

The following is an excerpt from my book THE WHOLE PERSON WELL-BEING EQUATION.

“Your body was created with a complex, high-tech computer-like operating system, one of your body’s amazing and often under-used abilities. The body’s properly functioning immunosurveillance, communication and programming go on mostly undetected and are required to maintain the body’s natural processes and good health. How do you use your body’s God-given operating system more effectively? Using your computer as a comparison may be a good place to start. Just like learning to use a computer, using your body’s operating system requires an understanding of how it works and how to use it. The software you were created with is installed and ready to use. Now it is time for you to determine what you consider possible.

What if your chronic headaches, investigated by your regular healthcare provider, reveal no known cause. You worry constantly every time you feel the twinge of a headache coming on. You may ask, “Why is this happening? I can’t stand this. I don’t understand this. Why can’t the doctors find out what is wrong with me? Why can’t they do something? Am I getting a brain tumour?”

Your brain (operating system) may be challenged to know what to do with all of those statements. If you are familiar with using a computer, you will realize that entering all of those questions into the keyword search box, one after the other; will return a flood of web links taking you days or weeks to search through, possibly without providing you with your ultimate goal – elimination of your headaches. Giving your brain the same type of input can cause confusion. Your brain, like your computer, will not know what to do with it.

Optimizing Your Operating System – Your body’s amazing well-being tool

When you give your brain a clear challenge or problem to solve, it has a task it can understand and is capable of addressing. There will unlikely be an instant resolution to the problem. When you hand your challenge over to your God and your brain, and stop fretting and ruminating; you may notice some interesting things happen. While your brain is surveying your body and finding a solution, ideas of a possible cause may come to mind.  ‘I wonder if it could have anything to do with . . .’ (your brain speaking to you through your intuition). You may be moved to make some changes in your life (your brain speaking to you through your intuition). You may come across a timely magazine article or television show about a new understanding of what causes headaches and what you can do about them. A friend telling you something they heard may turn on a light bulb for you. Coincidence? God-incidence? Prayers are answered and health is restored in many ways. Once your brain has given you your tasks to consider through your intuition and your work to implement (diet change?); it will communicate additional changes that need to happen to the cells and systems throughout your body.”

HEALTH BY DESIGN: For A Healthier You

Are your belief’s about what is possible in terms of your well-being limiting maximum rejuvenation and optimum health? Your body listens to what your brain tells it. Are the messages that you and the media are giving your brain; limiting how far your brain and body can take your healing? You may need to rewrite your definition of what is possible in terms of becoming well; so that your brain and body are on the same page. This may require a paradigm shift. The human body was created with many amazing abilities, often referred to as ‘the doctor within’.  Understanding and utilizing those often misunderstood and mostly forgotten powers is crucial to well-being.  Exploring ways to continually develop and maintain strength of mind and body will enable you to better endure the demands of life with grace and confidence; ultimately allowing you to stay focused on the pursuit of meaningful goals.  Change and fortitude often start with a healthy dose of fear.  Sometimes the fear comes through a ‘wake up call’ resulting from debilitating symptoms, a diagnosis or loss of a loved one.  Regardless of what brings you to your ‘brick wall’, being prepared is vital.  Becoming knowledgeable about the factors affecting well-being and stocking your ‘well-being toolbox’ to be ready for future health challenges is a sensible plan.  Developing a well-being plan should take the same priority as your investment, travel and retirement plans.  Well-being is a journey not merely a destination.  The information, self-help therapies and tools in this workbook and the Grace of God will not only enable you to meet the well-being challenges on your journey equipped; but will enhance your present well-being allowing you to live your life to its fullest and longest.
