YOUR ECOLOGICAL HEALTH FOOTPRINT: Consider A More Sustainable Healthcare Option

green_foot_print

I recently visited a website that reminded me of my footprint on the planet.  I have always tried to minimize my personal impact/footprint by thinking green and sustainable and simple. My healthcare choices are generally what I would consider green or sustainable healthcare. Green Maven, the world’s largest Green Search Engine, launched in 2006 by Joey Shepp, a green maven and founder of Earthsite, reminded me of my eco responsibility.

What does sustainable mean? Are your healthcare choices considered sustainable health choices?

The Merriam Webster online dictionary meaning of sustainable follows:

: of, relating to, or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged <sustainable techniques> <sustainable agriculture>

b : of or relating to a lifestyle involving the use of sustainable methods <sustainable society>

Is mind body healing a more sustainable healthcare, ‘low ecological foot print’ option?

Can your food and mind body healing provide for your healthcare needs with a lower ecological footprint than medications and supplements?

What are the ecological costs of your healthcare choices including your medications and supplements? Is there a more green, sustainable healthcare option available?

The first source for a cure for what ails you is often the medicine or supplement cabinet.  These strategies are necessary therapeutically at times so that you can get on with your day. A necessity in our fast paced lives. How many resources have been used to stock your ‘medicine/supplement cabinet’? The body has many amazing abilities and an internal pharmacy, both of which are often misunderstood and under used. Hippocrates, the father of medicine refers to them as ‘the doctor within’.
“Everyone has a doctor in him or her; we just have to help it in its work. The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well. Our food should be our medicine. Our medicine should be our food. But to eat when you are sick, is to feed your sickness.” Hippocrates Greek physician (460 BC – 377 BC)
Your body can and should be expected to provide the natural cures for many of your symptoms and health challenges without resorting to the contents of your medicine cabinet as a first stop.
Every moment of every day, without any action on your part hundreds of processes are taking place and abilities are available to you, even while you are asleep. The healthy human organism, with its complex high-tech operating system, is continually self detecting, self diagnosing, self renewing, self healing, self repairing, self cleaning and self protecting. The body has an internal pharmacy, which when functioning properly produces many natural cures: natural analgesic, anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, anti-stress, sleep-inducing, immune system strengthening and gastrointestinal normalizing chemicals.[1]  Many of the body’s processes and abilities are automatic and are often taken for granted. Your body can and should be expected to provide the natural cures for many of your symptoms and health challenges without resorting to your medicine cabinet as a first stop. The mind body healing abilities are a part of each of you, ready and available to be used. Learning how to effectively tap into and use your body’s amazing abilities and combining them with self-help therapies and tools can result in a powerful healing response and restore and maintain balance. These abilities provide your with more green,  sustainable healthcare options.
