Securing Your Financial Oxygen Mask

Health is more than just a strong body and a good diet. As my mother can surely attest, the whole person well-being equation is composed of several factors.

Just as a person must take care to make wise decisions around the food and personal products they consume as well as the environment they reside in; that same person must take care of their financial present and future, to ensure a long and enjoyable life.

If you’ve ever flown on a plane you’ve likely heard the pre-flight presentation where the flight attendants recite and act out what to do in the event of a plane crash. You’ll recall that in the event of a “loss of cabin pressure” you are instructed to secure and fasten your own oxygen mask before attempting to assist others.

Financial health is much of the same. If you wish to help your own personal life, your health and your community, you need to make sure that your “financial oxygen mask” is well secured.

What do I mean by this?

Well I’ve long heard people say “money isn’t everything” or “we don’t need those things”. These are statements of justifying a poor financial present and future.

At the end of the day, having more money will just make a person more of what they already are.

If a person is kind and generous, more money will allow them to be more kind and generous. If a person is mean and unsupportive, more money could allow them to be more of those things too. Of course, I know this doesn’t apply to you! 🙂

The point is, you likely won’t be able to help others or even yourself if you’re broke. So the first step is to identify and decide to improve your financial situation.

What many don’t realize is that humans are subconsciously programmed for a certain level of income. This is something that is learned at a very young age and tends to stick with people. This is why it takes a conscious and unwavering decision to change your financial position if you wish to see change in your life.

So why is this important…?

Well, one of the best things your can do for your health is to increase your happiness levels. While money doesn’t bring happiness, it does help enable it.

We all have dreams! Mine includes inspiring and empowering others, travelling the world, relaxing on the beach, writing and playing music, and spending time with my friends, family and my amazing girlfriend.

What would you like to have more of in your life?

The more spare time and money I have, the more ability I have to enjoy all of my favourite people and experiences. The more I can focus on helping and being with others!
